There are very few airlines that offer lie-flat business class seats on short haul UK and European flights. Turkish Airlines has the most consistent lie-flat intra-Europe business class offerings and should be on the short list of interested readers. A connection at the wonderful Istanbul airport with great Turkish lounge and extensive duty-free shopping will be an added bonus on your way to the US.

Conclusion
Spending your hard-earned miles on intra-Europe business class flights seems like a waste since most of them look like U.S. premium economy offerings. However, if you are using them as a connection to your final Star Alliance flight to the US, they cost the same amount of miles as the main trans-Atlantic flight.
