The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park on the western coast of Madagascar contains two limestone plateaus (Great Tsingy & Little Tsingy). While the park is only open in the dry season (April and November), the Great Tsingy plateau is only open from June to November which is the best time to visit the area. Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park is located 120 miles (4-6 hours) away from the nearest airport (MOQ) in the city Morondava. To reach Morondava, international travelers should first fly to Antananarivo airport (TNR), and then take a nonstop flight which only operates twice a week (THU & SUN).

Using Points to book Flights to Antananarivo (TNR), Madagascar

Flying Blue is one of the best ways to book award flights to TNR airport in Madagascar (one-way economy ticket 77K & business class 122K with flexible dates).

I recommend timing the flight correctly (e.g., arriving on Wednesday or Saturday), staying one night in Antananarivo and then taking the flight to Morondava on the next day.

Flight results WILL NOT appear if you are looking at the Google calendar view, but they will show when you click on either Thursday or Sunday dates.

Google search may show an empty calendar for flights between TNR and MOV

Driving from Morondava to Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

The road between Morondava and Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park has very poor road conditions and vehicle breakdowns are common. I recommend travelers get an Off Road 4×4 Snorkel SUV or take a prearranged tour guide with an experienced driver. Visitors may not find any rental cars from the popular chains and must get them from local companies with poor ratings (https://www.madevasion.com/voiture-de-location-Morondava-madagascar). Local tour companies offer a 3 day tour of both the Grand Tsingy De Bemaraha and Baobab Avenue (https://madagascartravelandtours.com/grand-tsingy-express-morondava/) including pick-up, accommodation, ferry prices and breakfast.

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park Hiking

The Andamozavaky Circuit has a spectacular view of the Tsingy’s stony pinnacles (https://www.alltrails.com/parks/madagascar/melaky/parc-national-des-tsingy-de-bemaraha). Manambolo Gorge Trail (Ranotsara) has a great view of the Tsingy’s limestone rocks, but requires taking a canoe.

Conclusion

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park is far away from the nearest airports and requires proper planning. Madagascar can be reached by booking award flights with Flying Blue points and the money saved can be used to book regional flights and tours.
