The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch is a category 5 (17-23K points) resort with a 2.5-acre water playground along with a 3-story waterslide. The resort has majestic views of the McDowell Mountains and the property grounds have several palm trees, cacti, wildflowers and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture. It has a daily Resort Fee of $45.00 along with a self parking fee of $25 and a valet parking fee of $35 per night. For bringing the pets, the hotel charges $150 per stay (up to 6 nights) and an additional $150 from day 7 to day 30.
How I booked the Hotel
I used 94k Hyatt points for 5 nights and also used one of my suite upgrade certificates to get the Palm Suite. See the image below for the typical room prices for the winter months.
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Check-in
The hotel has valet parking, but it is run by a private company and not free for Hyatt Globalists. There is a large self parking lot close to the front entrance and we used it for the duration of our stay. We arrived at the hotel at 11 PM from the airport and we were impressed by the hotel’s Christmas decorations. The check-in process was very quick and we headed to our suite.
Palm Suite
Palm Suite has plenty of space for everything with a large closet, seating area, two TVs, and a comfortable mattress. The bathroom is spacious with good water pressure and a rainfall shower.
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Breakfast
Hyatt Regency offers a daily buffet and fully served breakfast and we went with the latter option. Overall, the choice of menu and taste of food and customer service were excellent. We enjoyed having scrambled eggs, pork sausages and oatmeal. Prices for breakfast are reasonable compared to other Hyatt hotels, where you are charged ridiculous amounts and they do not automatically include service fees. I highly recommend getting the “Pistache French Toast”, which is the best tasting dish from the menu.
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Outdoor Seating
It was cloudy and rainy for 3 days when we visited and the pictures may not look as bright. We enjoyed sitting next to the large fire pits on chilly evenings.
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Pool Area
This hotel has some of the largest heated pools you will ever come across anywhere in the world and there is a separate adults only section along with a large hot-tub. The kids pool section has an artificial beach at one end along with a 3-story slide. There are plenty of lounge chairs around all the pools and it is easy to find a secluded place even when it is busy.
GYM
This property has a very good gym with all the needed work-out equipment and some free weights. There are enough towels along with a cold water dispenser. The hotel also has a large spa section with sauna and massages for interested guests, but we did not go inside that area.
Conclusion
Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is one of the best hotels in the Scottsdale city and booking with Hyatt points will give you the best value due to the high cash prices and resort fees. Scottsdale is one of the cleanest cities in the world and offers plenty of options for hiking, dining and shopping. If you are a Globalist, I recommend using the suite upgrade certificates since the hotel tends to get fully booked most of the year.
