We stayed at Alua Atlántico Golf Resort in Tenerife before heading to Lanzarote. We booked an ocean view suite at this category A (12K points) all-inclusive resort (see images below for points vs cash prices).
Alua Atlántico Golf Resort Location
The resort is located very close to Tenerife South (TFS) airport (see image below). We rented a car from Hertz and drove to the hotel. We were able to find a free parking space in front of the hotel. Interestingly, this resort does not offer a dedicated parking lot for guests or valet parking for a price. If all the parking spots are full, you have to patiently wait for someone to leave and chase after the spot with other others.
Globalist recognition at check-in
Front desk staff members immediately recognized the Globalist status and sent a concierge member to accompany us to the suite and she explained all the benefits in great detail. They also reserved a table for dinner at one of their restaurants. No room upgrade was required since we already have an ocean view suite.
Preferred Club Status gives you access to exclusive seating for breakfast, premium amenities, and perks like personalized check-in and checkout. The resort also gave us “My Favorite Club” wristbands, which will give you access to dedicated congestion-free dining areas.
Ocean View Suite
The ocean view suite is spacious with gorgeous ocean views as expected, but the furnishings leave a lot to be desired. Two double-sized mattresses are joined together in the bedroom with long, firm half-height pillows. The quality of the furniture is poor for the kitchen furniture and bedroom side tables (feels like a 3-star airport hotel). I liked the center tea table in the living room which is made with solid wood.
There is a large patio with ocean views that extends between both the bedroom and living room with two large double glass sliding doors in each room.
Ocean views & sounds from the suite
You can open the patio doors and sit in the living room or bedroom while enjoying the ocean sounds (see the video below).
Bathroom and Toilet
The bathroom space is nice, but the shower has a halfway fixed glass which is open in the front making a mess with water splashing outside. We placed two towels at the shower entrance to absorb the water. The toilet is very close to the wall on one-side making you sit on it at an angle (I have seen in this design in Madrid Hyatt as well).
I was surprised to see that the resort provided no toiletries for the suite. The bathroom has shower gel and shampoo containers and nothing else (soap for the sink, hair conditioner, body lotion etc.,) is available (not even a nose tissue box).
Room Service
There is no 24-hour in-room dining options here, like at some expensive all-inclusive resorts. Room cleaning service is done very promptly and the front desk customer service is fantastic. You can scan the barcode to download the Hyatt hotel app, from where you can request room service.
Wi-Fi Connection
You will see two different Wi-Fi networks (Alua Atlantico and Hyatt) with different areas of coverage throughout the property.
Club Lounge
The club lounge is small with a keycard access and has a distilled water station, cappuccino machine, soft drink fountain, ice bucket along with some bite-sized sandwiches, sweets & snacks. Club lounge is the best place to get soft drinks and cappuccino compared to the other places at various buffets.
Heated Indoor & Outdoor Pools
The indoor pool is only open Monday-Friday and we could not use it during our stay.
Agua Lobby Bar
The front desk check-in area is massive and opens into several large seating areas with comfortable sofas for many people. The Agua lobby bar serves all the drinks, snacks and fruits throughout the day. The resort offers several aerobic classes along with dancing lessons for those who are interested.
Terra Cafe Buffet Restaurant
As expected, the food quality is not great and there are several buffets with different items spread over a long hall. There was an omelet station during breakfast which is the only item I enjoyed.
Mare Nubium Restaurant
This restaurant was closed during our visit.
Kentia Restaurant
Again, nothing special or tasty in the food served here, but the set up was nice for families and children to get unlimited food and drinks.
Chido Tex-Mex Restaurant
We had one dinner at this restaurant which was very good (advanced reservations required).
Kids Astro Club
Fitness Center
There is a fitness center with all the necessary equipment but it has worn-out equipment (see the second image below). I am still glad that this resort has this option which is helpful to burn some calories. The fitness center is connected to the indoor swimming pool and sauna room which are closed on the weekends.
Conclusions
Alua Atlántico Golf Resort is a shockingly low-priced all-inclusive resort with a 3-star feel that serves families and children well enough to enjoy the year-round beautiful weather in Tenerife. There is no way you will see any all-inclusive resorts for these prices in Hawaii or anywhere else in the US.
You should keep your expectations low (considering the low prices) and you will not be disappointed. If you can afford it, I recommend staying in the ocean view suite to get the most out of the trip. If you are planning to explore the island with a rental car, I recommend looking at other options since there is no private parking.
