Singapore is an island country in Southeast Asia located about 85 miles north of the Equator (never gets typhoons/hurricanes). Singapore gained its independence from Malaysia in 1965 and later heavily invested in green infrastructure and is now considered one of the world’s cleanest and greenest cities.

Things to know about Singapore laws

  • Singapore is known for issuing hefty fines for offenses like jaywalking, littering, not flushing toilets in public places and connecting to someone else’s WiFi without permission.
  • There is a prohibition on importing or selling chewing gum and graffiti or vandalism can be severely punished.
  • Visitors are not allowed to bring in any chewing gum, even if you remain within the airport transit zone while traveling through Singapore.
  • Singapore has very strict drug laws, with potential for severe penalties including the death penalty for serious drug trafficking cases.
  • Public indecency (e.g., walking naked) is strictly prohibited.

Award booking flights to Singapore

Singapore nonstop flight duration is long (around 18 hrs) and I recommend breaking the journey in Europe by using Aeroplan points and paying additional 5K points for a one-way stopover.

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles can be used to book nonstop flights and connecting flights to Singapore with higher miles, but super low taxes (see image below).

Conclusion

We rarely enjoy staying in cities due to the congestion and also since we enjoy outdoor scenic nature and hikes. Singapore is one exception to this and it amazes the moment you land at the international airport, which itself is a design marvel. The Supertrees at the Grove must be experienced at both day and night times.
