Atlas Mountains extend for more than 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers) forming the geologic backbone of countries like Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. Located among the Moroccan High Atlas mountains, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak at 4,167m (13,665 feet). High Atlas mountains are close to Marrakesh (2 hours), but I will also include award flights to Casablanca in this review.
Award booking flights from the US to Casablanca
AA miles are best for booking Royal Air Maroc’s business class nonstop flights from the U.S. to Casablanca with low taxes (see image below).
Alaska Mileage Plan saves on miles but charges more in taxes (see image below).
Flying Blue connecting flights to Casablanca is another easy way to take a business class flight to Casablanca for 55K points and $283 in taxes.
Casablanca accommodation
I highly recommend staying a few nights at Hyatt Regency Casablanca to explore the beautiful Casablanca.
Award booking flights from the US to Marrakesh
There are no direct flights from the US to Marrakesh (RAK), but it is easy to book connecting flights with either Flying Blue or Star Alliance partner programs. Booking Star Alliance flights (e.g., TAP) with LifeMiles and Aeroplan will save you in taxes (see image below).
Casablanca to Marrakesh nonstop flights can be booked with 7.5K Alaska miles (see image below).
Marrakesh Accommodation
Park Hyatt Marrakesh will be a premium property to enjoy with points in Marrakesh while exploring the High Atlas Mountains as a day trip.
Hyatt Regency Taghazout is 5 hours away from the Atlas mountains, but is a much cheaper and beautiful Hyatt property.
