Amex offers several useful tools in Account Services which help to transfer the available credit line to another credit card (review) and also to increase the existing line of credit.

Click on “Payment and Credit Options” under the Account Services tab

Click on “Request Credit Limit Increase”

You will find your current credit limit on the next page

Type in your desired line of credit

I usually put in a number two to three times that of the current credit limit. For example, I requested for a new credit line of $10,000 for a card with 3K limit (see image below).

Type in your annual household income

Wait a few seconds for the decision

In my case, Amex approved a higher credit line that is 3 times higher than the old credit.

How often can I request to increase the line of credit?

You can request an increase in your line of credit every year and you will see the following message if you try to do it too often.

Why should I care about having a large line of credit

Having a large line of credit will help you maintain a higher credit score. I have had the Amex EveryDay card for over 15 years and this is the first time I requested for an increased credit line.

Conclusion

Amex has created some wonderful account tools that help users to request an increased line of credit and to transfer the credit to another credit card. Amex may or may not approve your request for an increased line of credit based on your credit worthiness (history of prompt payments, not leaving balances etc.,).
