Amex makes it easy to move available credit between any two credit cards from “Payment and Credit Options” under the “Account Services” menu.
How do I access Payment and Credit Options?
Make sure you choose a card with a line of credit (NOT Charge Cards) and click on the Account Services tab in the top row. Then click on the Payment and Credit Options tab on the bottom left (see image below).
Transfer Credit Limit to Another Card
Now, click on the tab “Transfer Credit Limit to Another Card” (see image below).
Amex line of credit transfer rules
You can only transfer the available line of credit from;
- Your personal card to another personal card.
- Your personal card to another business card.
- Your business card to another business card.
However, you cannot transfer a business line of credit to a personal card.
Choose the appropriate credit card from the drop down list.
Example 1
In my case, I only have two cards with a credit line (Delta Business Gold and Amex EveryDay Personal).
The system is allowing me to transfer the available credit from my personal card to my Delta Gold business card (see image below).
Example 2
See a similar example from my wife’s Amex account, where she has Blue Cash EveryDay and Blue Business Plus cards.
Conclusion
Amex makes it easy to transfer your available line of credit between your personal and business credit cards. It is useful to move the line of credit before closing any unused credit cards.
