InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort (link) is a five-star luxury beach resort in Cancun. We stayed here for two nights since our flights were cancelled due to hurricane Milton. I used two of my IHG free night award certificates to reserve a King Classic Terrace Room.

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort Check-in & Lobby

The front-desk agent recognized our IHG Platinum Elite status and upgraded our room to a Classic King Room with Ocean View. He asked us if we were willing to pay an additional $75 per night to be upgraded to an Intercontinental Club Room with Ocean View which includes breakfast for two ($60USD value) and club access between 6-9pm. It sounded like a good deal and we paid for the upgrade.

Intercontinental Club Room with Ocean View

We really appreciated that there were 4 bottles of still water in the room. There is plenty of space in the suite with a small patio with amazing ocean views. There was a large bench at the foot-board of the king mattress to place our carry on luggage.

Both rooms had nice wall-mounted remotes to control the electronic blinds

Outdoor Swimming Pools

There are 3 outdoor swimming pools surrounded by bars and restaurants.

Fitness Center

The fitness center is located inside a cool looking hut and contained free weights and other TechnoGym equipment.

Club Lounge Breakfast & Evening Happy Hour

We enjoyed breakfast at the Club Lounge and they have a nice omelette station along with cold and hot breakfast options. Cappuccino and Earl Grey tea were very good and they have go cups for taking the drinks outside. Happy hour snacks included some hot meals, desserts and soft drinks.

Le Cap Beach Club

We went for dinner at Le Cap Beach Club and they are known to serve delicious grilled fish, chicken and steak. The menu prices are high ($25-30USD per each main dish) and they charge $9 for a bottled water (I recommend bringing a bottle of water from the room). We ordered the grilled chicken and salmon and they were very tasty and can be ranked as some of the best we ever had. We ended up going to the same place for dinner the next day.

Oceanfront huts & cabanas

We relaxed in the lounge chairs inside the huts with direct beach access.

Notable Negatives of InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

  • Temperature lock for the room air conditioner (lowest temperature cannot be lower than 20 degrees C). The thermostat can be lowered to 18 degrees, but the unit display shows only 20 degrees after several hours. We like our hotel room temperature to be very cold and requested a fan which was delivered to our room. This is not unusual for overseas hotels and we are used to dealing with it by requesting a fan whenever possible.

Conclusion

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort is a wonderful oceanfront property, which is easy to book with IHG points & free night awards. Stays can be upgraded to suites with club access for a reasonable amount of money and guests can enjoy the pools and beach access.
