Flying Blue is one of my favorite award booking programs to book flights to France & Amsterdam with free one-way stopovers to travel to other countries (link).
I was unable to travel due to medical reasons and had to cancel the award flights booked with Flying Blue.
Flying Blue Award Change & Cancellation Fees
Flying Blue charges 70 Euros (post-COVID increase) for award booking changes and cancellations. When I called the Flying Blue agent, I was told to first pay the cancellation fee and then email customer service (flyingblue.europe@airfrance-klm.com) explaining my medical reason along with a letter from the physician’s office.
Flying Blue Tax Refunds & Cancellation Charges

Flying Blue response to my request
It took 13 days for Flying Blue to respond to my request and I was happy to receive the email from them.

Flying Blue Refund
Flying Blue refund was posted quickly to my Amex Platinum with a small difference from the original charge ($78.29 vs $77.34) for unclear reasons.

Conclusion
If you are unable to travel due to medical reasons, several airline programs will waive the cancellation fees and I wanted to mention my experience in this short post.
