Taroko National Park is known for the Taroko Gorge along with other popular trails. Hualien is the nearest town and spring and fall are the best times to visit the national park.

Award booking flights to Taiwan

Finding premium cabin award space for two passengers on direct flights (Eva Air & Starlux) from the US to Taiwan (TPE) is difficult.

Single premium cabin award space (ANA & Eva Air) is more easily available for booking in advance (see image below).

I recommend using Asia Miles to book JAL premium cabins to Japan at least 360 days ahead of time (review) and then take a short connection to Taipei.

Taipei

I recommend staying 1-2 nights in Taipei to explore Yehliu Geopark (review) and then renting a car or taking a train to Hualien town which serves as a base to explore the national park.

Accommodation near Taroko National Park

There are several hotels to choose from on Booking.com (link) and we stayed at a place called “Crossing The Rainbow Bridge B&B” (see image below).

We drove in a rental car from TPE airport to the accommodation in under 3 hours and it was easy to self drive and explore the national park trails.
