The Terracotta Army Museum in Xi’an is considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world. The army refers to thousands of life-size clay models of soldiers, horses, and chariots that were built (as afterlife guards) and deposited around the grand mausoleum of China’s First Emperor Shi Huangdi.

How I Booked the Trip to China

I used ANA miles to book a United roundtrip business class flight from Washington to Beijing. I planned our China trip to visit Beijing, Xi’an, and Zhangye. We spent a few days in Beijing and then went to see Terracotta warriors in Xi’an.

Flights to Xi’an

It is easy to find nonstop flights to Xi’an from all the major airports in China. Points (8K Aeroplan or 8-8.8K United miles each way) can also be used to book flights if the cash prices are too high.

Xi’an Accommodation

We stayed in Hilton Xi’an for 3 nights, which is one of the best designed Hiltons in the world. The staff is very friendly and they upgraded us to a suite (Hilton Diamond). Hilton Xi’an is very reasonably priced (<$80 per night) and they recognize Hilton Gold/Diamond status to offer suite upgrades.

Terracotta Army

We asked the Hilton hotel to arrange a private guide and taxi to take us and see the Terracotta army. The whole experience was wonderful and I remember paying less than $50 for the service.

Other Scenic Attractions near Xi’an

Summary

The Terracotta Army is a must-see attraction in Xi’an for travelers and history lovers. Award booking flights from the US to China and regional flights operated by Air China are easy to book with Star Alliance partners.
