Thompson Madrid (part of Hyatt) is a 5-star hotel located in Plaza del Carmen Madrid. Thompson Madrid is the Thompson Hotels brand’s first property in Spain and opened September 8, 2022.
Thompson Madrid Award Booking
Needless to say, I used Chase/Hyatt points to book a night at this property. Cash prices at this property for a basic room are in excess of $400 USD and using points here makes it a perfect redemption.
Thompson Madrid Check-in & Lobby
The friendly front desk agent greeted us and thanked us for being a Globalist. She informed me that we had been upgraded to a King Suite with City View ($2800) and explained the locations for the gym, pool and breakfast. We took the elevator to the 3rd floor to reach our suite.

King Suite City View
The King Suite has a mesmerizing interior filled with hardwood floors, area rugs, lots of wood accents and plenty of closet space for your suitcases and clothes. The toilet area is right next to the front entrance and you can walk through to the bedroom. The queen mattress is very comfortable with amazing supportive pillows.

Suite Airconditioning
The A/C thermostat could not be lowered below 19 degrees C, but it is one of the best air conditioners we have ever experienced without any perspiration under the comforter at night.
Suite Summary
This is one of the best designed Hyatt suites I have come across over the last year and reminded me of the elegant Fuji Speedway hotel in Japan (review). Fuji Speedway hotel wins due to its drawer full of high-end skin care products, a Japanese Bidet toilet and a super comfortable easy chair along with beautiful mountain views.
Thompson Madrid Wi-Fi Speed
Wi-Fi speeds were just adequate and not groundbreaking at this hotel, but I did notice that 4K images loaded quicker than expected.

Rooftop Swimming Pool
It was designed more for looks than for getting any laps in it and it was not heated.

Fitness Center
The equipment in the fitness center is really well laid out and the only thing missing is any kind of a chest press or Smith machine. I was surprised to see LifeFitness equipment there instead of the usual TechnoGym.

Breakfast
Thompson Madrid provided us with a full menu based breakfast without any stated limitations and we enjoyed some fresh eggs and hot drinks there.

Subway fast food right across the street
We were surprised to find a small Subway located across the front entrance of the hotel. We always enjoy their reasonably priced toasted subs and had two of our meals there.
Conclusion
Thompson Madrid is the best Hyatt hotel in Madrid with excellent customer service, status recognition and suite upgrades. We stayed here for a single night on our way to India and were grateful to the Hyatt loyalty program after enjoying a perfect King Suite that was worth around 3K USD. At the end of the stay we couldn’t help but wonder why we did not stay here for the entire 5 nights instead of splitting with Secrets Lanzarote.
