Alyeska Resort is in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness (located 40 miles away from Anchorage) and offers a variety of recreational activities like skiing, glacier hiking, white water rafting and dog sledding.

What brought on this memory?

We are not skiers, but we enjoyed the stay at the resort in late March with activities like dog sledding and snowmobiling in Chugach mountains (we fell twice during snowmobiling without major injuries).

Alyeska Resort Pros

  • It’s located in a beautiful location and is surrounded by the Chugach mountains.
  • A perfect ski-in/ski-out location and it’s very easy to rent ski equipment and get to the lifts; it’s located just a few steps from the tram. Ski valet is available.
  • Great hiking possibilities in summer
  • Fitness center
  • Heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub and sauna
  • Free transport into the town of Girdwood
  • 20% of Tram prices for guests
  • Heated towel warmer in the bathroom (perfect in winter)

Alyeska Resort Cons

  • 4PM check in and 11am checkout times.
  • While the common areas are beautiful, the Deluxe double rooms don’t feel “Deluxe” with cramped bathrooms.
  • Hotel rooms are outdated and could use a makeover, and the mattresses need replacing.
  • Restaurant prices are expensive.
  • Wintertime congestion with too many kids.
  • Parking lot is a bit far from the hotel (best to take an Uber in the winter).
  • Pool slots must be reserved (no adult-only times).
  • Prices double during summer time.

Alyeska Resort Reservations

Alyeska Resort can be booked on several booking websites (e.g., Booking.com) including Capital One travel to earn 10x points (see images below).

I saw for the first time that Capital One travel portal shows prices that are less than Booking.com (including Genius discount).
