Vicente Perez Rosales National Park (Chilean Lake District) is Chile’s first national park (created in 1926) and it’s connected to the two neighboring Argentinean Lake District National Parks (Nahuel Huapi and Lanín). Together, all three national parks form a protected area of over 5000 square miles.

Puerto Montt‘s Aeropuerto El Tepual (PMC) has daily nonstop flights from Santiago (SCL) and Puerto Varas is the nearest scenic town to the national park. I recommend using Puerto Varas as your base to explore the Chilean Lake District with a rental car.

Award booking flights to Santiago & Puerto Montt

I recommend using Alaska miles to book LATAM business class to reach Santiago 10 months before your trip.

Santiago to PMC airport

Flights are reasonably priced between SCL and PMC throughout the year (link).

Alaska miles can also be used as needed and a free one-way stopover in Santiago can also be booked.

Puerto Montt Rental Cars

I highly recommend a rental car for your trip and the prices are very reasonable from PMC airport (Kayak).

Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park Hikes

Please refer to the AllTrails page for the popular hikes in the region. A trip to see Petrohue Falls, Puntaguide and Osorno volcanoes is a must even if you are not planning to hike in the national park. The crystal waters of Lake Todos los Santos are perfect for kayaking and rafting enthusiasts.

Conclusion

Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park in the Chilean Lake District is a must-see for nature lovers who enjoy exploring the mountains, forests and waterfalls. Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina is vast (review) and requires proper planning to cover all the scenic attractions.
