Why I prefer Grand Hyatt Tokyo as a Globalist?

I tend to stay longer at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo for the following reasons:

  • It is easy to apply for the Suite Upgrade Award a full year ahead. The Grand Suite needs a redesign, but it still offers a very spacious and comfortable stay to explore Tokyo.
  • Grand Hyatt Club Lounge is phenomenal, with friendly staff, and the food is constantly being updated throughout the day.
  • While both hotels have dessert shops in the lobby, the Fiorentina Pastry Boutique at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo is considered world-class.
  • We enjoy walking around the Roppongi Hills to explore shopping and dining, compared to the Andaz Tokyo location.
  • I find the dry sauna in the men’s section to be much bigger and less congested. My wife enjoys the dry sauna in the women’s section compared to the traditional steam room often found in Japanese hotels.
  • I love the massage chairs in the men’s spa after a sauna and shower.
  • I find the indoor heated swimming pool less congested as well because it is wider.
  • I love the elevator system at Grand Hyatt Tokyo, containing six fast elevators. I dislike the idea of taking two elevators to get in and out of the Andaz Tokyo, and we always experience earaches from using them.

What about Hotel Toranomon Hills?

I heard good things about the Hotel Toranomon Hills (CAT 7), which is located very close to Andaz Tokyo. While the standard rooms are much smaller (27- 32 m²), it is easy to apply SUA to reserve a standard suite (48- 60 m²) there. It seems to have a very good Club Lounge there with private resting rooms and showers, and Globalists get free access to the Carappo Fitness Center & Spa (link). I will book a few suite nights here during my next trip and update the post with my experience.

Conclusion

When visiting Tokyo, you can’t go wrong with either Grand Hyatt Tokyo or Andaz Tokyo. I recommend Andaz Tokyo if you are choosing standard rooms, since they are designed better and are more spacious. If you have SUA’s and are planning the trip early, I highly recommend using them to book the Grand Suite at GH Tokyo, which is also your only choice if you want to enjoy the Club Lounge.
